Save searches with issue filters

Issue filters allow you to save a search for use at a later time. A filter collects search criteria that can be accessed online, shared with co-workers, emailed to you as a digest, or gathered using a RSS reader.

The Issue Navigator includes some basic filtering options for sifting through search results. Filtering is incredibly powerful in BTS and you can find issues based on almost any detail specified when creating the issue, or text that appears on the issue.

The above image shows the basic filters offered in the Issue Navigator. These include filters to specify issues categorized by: project, issue type, status, assignee, or text that appears in the issue's details.

There are many more filters available by pressing the More button. This submenu will allow you to search for filter criteria by typing into a search field. Here you can specify filter criteria for almost any aspect of an issue.

Find pre-made filters

Others people in your project may have already created useful filters for you. To find filters, hover your mouse over the left-hand side of the Issue Navigator and click Find Filters. From there, you can search for pre-made filters by name or description, or by the username of who created the filter.

Save a search as an issue filter

Saved searches can save you time, if you find yourself filtering search results in a patterned way, often. To save a search as an issue filter:

  1. Create a search in the Issue Navigator.
  2. Click the Save As button at the top of the search form, above the filter options.
  3. Give the filter a memorable name and click Submit.

When you save a filter, it appears on the left side of the Issue Navigator, under your Favorite Filters.

Share and subscribe to filters

You can set your filter to be viewable by other users. Or, if you've found a filter you'd like to stay up to date with, you can subscribe to it and receive periodic emails containing recent changes on the issues that match your filter criteria.

  2. Under Permissions, select the Edit permissions link.
  3. edit filter dialog
The edit filter interface allows you to share filters.
  4. Select the level of permission you want to apply in the Add Shares drop-down menu and click the + Add button. You can share your filters with everyone on BTS, specific projects, or specific groups of users.
  5. Click Save. The filter will now be visible to those with the permissions you set.

Subscribe to a filter

If you subscribe to an issue filter, BTS then runs the search according to your specified schedule, and emails the results to you. You can specify when and how often you would like to receive the search results. To subscribe to an issue filter:

  1. Open a filter you want to share and click the Details link that appears next to it's name.
  2. Under Subscriptions, select the New subscription link.
  3. Subscribing to an issue filter

  4. Select how often and at what times you would like BTS to run the search query and email you the results.
  5. Click Subscribe. You will start receiving email notifications at the intervals you specified.
